I am encouraged by Psalm 30:5 where we are reminded that "weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning." I find this same joy in my painting practice. In Genesis 1:10, God calls His creation "good" for the first time. In the same way that our Father delights in His creation, I hope to seek joy in the act of creating.
My scholarly interests include the experience of Asian Americans in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Chinese landscape paintings, and the ways in which Orientalism has been visually presented. Currently, the relationship between my research and artistic practice is leading her to explore how art can neurobiologically support healing from shame and trauma.
I am originally from Orlando, Florida where I grew up with my older brother, Jonathan, and my parents. I cannot remember a day that I did not love drawing, stories, or being outside. Eventually, I would like to teach on the collegiate level in order to equip and inspire others to look, make, and live with art. My relationship with my family has taught me the importance of empowering neurodiverse individuals to have access to equal educational opportunities, which I hopes to incorporate into my future career.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
